Starting something new—especially something that makes you sweat in public while trying something you have never done—is nerve-wracking for just about everyone! If you’re thinking about joining a gym, but feel intimidated, unsure, or just having trouble making the commitment… you’re not alone. We’ve seen it all, and we’re here to help you take that first step with confidence.
You Made It to the Door—That’s Already a Win
It sounds cliche, but just walking through the door is a big deal! Most people overthink it, talk themselves out of it, or just hit the snooze on the alarm and say they’ll try again “later”. So if you’ve made it this far, you’ve already done the hardest part. You took action, and that’s something to be proud of!
No, You Don’t Need to Be in Shape to Start at a Gym
We’re going to set the record straight – the gym is not just for people who are already fit. Yes, you’ll see lots of “in-shape” people here, but the gym is for everyone that wants to improve their fitness—whatever that means for them. You don’t need to lose weight, master push-ups, or be able to run a mile before you join us. You just need to be open to taking that first step on your fitness journey. That’s it. We’ll meet you where you are and help you hit your fitness goals.
What to Wear (And What Not to Stress About)
While making a fashion statement with your gym outfit can be fun, no one here worries about what brand is on your leggings or really cares if it is even color coordinated. Wear something comfortable that you can move and sweat in—t-shirt, shorts, joggers, your favorite running shoes are perfect. Our only real “rule” is for your safety. Supportive shoes, clothes you’re not adjusting every five seconds, and a something to stay hydrated is all you need to get started. Come as you are. We’ve got the rest!
How Coaches Help You Feel Comfortable From the Start
From the moment you walk in our door, we’ve got you covered! Our coaches will show you around, introduce you to other members, and talk you through what to expect. We’ll ask a few questions about your goals, any past experience, and any injuries so we can keep you safe and supported. You won’t be thrown into a workout blind. You’ll be coached, encouraged, and guided every step of the way.
What the First Workout Might Look Like (And Why It’s Scaled for You)
We’ll go over the day’s workout as a group, breaking down every movement so it makes sense. We do a variety of movements, with some combination of weightlifting, gymnastics and cardio every day, and everything is scaled to your level, whether you’re just starting out or have some experience. Can’t do a pull-up yet? Not a problem, we’ve got options to meet you where you are! Our goal is to help you move well, feel confident, and finish the class feeling accomplished.
It’s Normal to Feel Nervous—But You Won’t Be Alone
Feeling anxious? That is okay and just means you care. Everyone in our gym had a Day One—and they remember what it felt like. Our gym’s community is full of people who started a little unsure but ready to get started, just like you. We’re here to answer your questions, calm your nerves, and help you take that first step with confidence.
By the End of Class, We Hope You Feel Proud—Not Perfect You probably leave class a little sweaty, a little sore, and a little surprised by what you were able to accomplish. Maybe you learned a new movement. Maybe you pushed through and kept moving when you wanted to quit. Either way, you showed up—and that’s everything! We don’t expect perfection. We just want you to walk out the door feeling proud of yourself and thinking, “I am glad I did this”.
